Halal-friendly holidays

As Ubud is in Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim country, it is a very Muslim-friendly place, with halal food options in many hotels and restaurants, mosques to pray and alcohol-free villas.

Ubud offers a variety of options for halal food. Some meat served is halal, but double check with individual restaurants. Local restaurants serve dishes like Nasi Ayam, satays and Nasi Goreng. Alternatively, there is also international cuisine available if you’re seeking pasta, burgers or other western food. Vegetarian and vegan options are widely available too. If you prefer fast-food, most chains of KFC, McDonalds and Pizza Hut are halal-certified, but check to confirm.

There are some hotels and villas in Ubud that are alcohol-free and serve halal food.

Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary - Visit this popular monkey sanctuary where over 1260 different species of monkeys are kept in a lush rainforest environment covering 12.5 hectares.

Campuhan Ridge Walk - This is an absolute must-see on any visit to Ubud. Though it might be a short walkway, it’s a great escape for those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of the town. Visit just before dawn to watch the sunrise for an unforgettable experience.

Mount Batur - A 48 minute drive from Ubud. Climb up Mount Batur which is 1700m of an active volcano above the clouds to watch the sunrise. You’ll also find hot springs where you can take a dip at the summit to relax after your long trek.

Neka Art Museum - This art museum is a great place to see exhibits showcased by local Balinese and Indonesian artists.

There are some mosques in Ubud. Here are a couple of suggested mosques which you can visit and where you can pray:

Mosque Ubudiah - Located just off a main road, Mosque Ubudiah is one of Ubud’s most well-attended mosques, where locals come for their prayers and Friday (Jumuah) Khutbahs.

Mosque Nurul Yaqin - This is another well-attended mosque in Ubud and is a spacious place which accommodates many Muslims for prayer.
