Halal-friendly holidays

Although Madeira has a relatively small Muslim population, it is generally considered Muslim-friendly as the locals are known for their hospitality and tolerance towards different cultures and religions. In the capital, Funchal, there is a mosque and a few restaurants that serve halal food. There are few hotels that serve halal food upon request and have alcohol-free rooms.

There are some restaurants and cafes that serve halal food, most of which are located in Funchal. Since Madeira is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, there are many seafood restaurants. There are vegetarian and vegan restaurants all over the island. Some supermarkets also offer halal meat and other halal products.

There are some hotels in Madeira that offer alcohol-free rooms and offer halal food upon request.

CR7 Museum - The CR7 Museum chronicles the journey of legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, who was born and raised on the island of Madeira. It shows, among other things, over a hundred individual and collector trophies.

Laurissilva Forest - This twenty-million-year-old subtropical rainforest is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most important and impressive attractions on the island of Madeira. It is a hiker's paradise and features numerous waterfalls and unique endemic plants and animals.

Funchal - Funchal, Madeira's capital and largest city, is considered the most picturesque and cleanest capital in Europe. Funchal borders the Atlantic Ocean and has dramatic mountains in the background. It has extensive gardens and offers a beautiful, tranquil atmosphere. It is home to numerous museums and shops and is popular for whale watching, canyoning, swimming, diving and windsurfing in its crystal clear waters.

Madeira Peaks - Climb the Madeira peaks and enjoy the spectacular views of the island. On the way up, you can admire rock formations as you hike among the clouds.

Al-Tawheed Mosque - This small mosque on the outskirts of Funchal is the only mosque in Madeira. It is open for daily prayers and delivers Jumu’ah Khutbahs in Arabic and Portuguese.
